Current activities at the Portsmouth Friendship Centre

Chinese Elders Lunch Club

    * Every Tuesday from 11am-5pm in the main hall - everyone welcome.

ASAP - Asylum Seekers Activity Project

    * Helps asylum seekers and refugees to access local educational, leisure, social and cultural facilities.
    * Leisure cards and information available, interpreters also.
    * Fridays, 1pm-4pm table tennis, pool table, backgammon, chess, regular art workshops and refreshments always available.

ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)

    * Taught by South Downs College at the Friendship Centre.
    * English Language (writing, speaking and listening)
    * Mathematics (via ESOL)
    * Morning, afternoon and evening classes by arrangement.

PCT / PCC Community Development Workers

    * Supporting Black and Minority Ethnic group members with mental health and well being.
    * To deliver race equality in mental health by bridging the gaps between mental health providers and BME communities in Portsmouth.
    * By promoting equality but also recognising and understanding diverse cultural, religious and spiritual beliefs.

ICT/Computer Suite

    * IT User Journey Project in partnership with the Really Helpful IT Company, every Monday 2.30pm - 4.30pm every Tuesday 10am - 12 noon and every Friday 10am - 12 noon.

Chinese Medicine Clinic

    * Complimentary medicine available every day (by appointment)
    * Includes: Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine and Pulsing Electromagnetic Field Therapy

Youth Interfaith Forum

    * Young people (up to 26 years old) from different faiths meet weekly to discuss ideas and share experiences.
    * The Aim is to bridge the gap between young people from different faiths bringing them "face to face" to discuss and share experiences of subjects chosen by them and how it relates to their beliefs.
    * The Forum will form a volunteer team which will broadcast a regular interfaith radio show on Express FM.
    * Express FM will provide monthly workshops in radio and presentation skills.
    * The radio show will focus on discussions, music and opinions that have been expressed through the weekly meetings.

Portsmouth Health Trainers

    * Health Trainers are based at the Centre offering FREE health advice to the BME Communities
    * Advice available on weight loss, smoking, mental health, sexual health and any other health problems.

Portsmouth Friends

    * Activities, education and support for young people from a refugee background.
    * Every Wednesday evening, 6-8pm in the main hall.


Slimming World

    * Slimming group, open every Thursday, starting at 5.30pm

Foundations for Learning

    * Arts and crafts, IT and Drama activities for adults with learning disabilities. Run by South Downs College and Portsmouth Day services.
