Friendship Centre launches membership scheme
The Lord Mayor of Portsmouth has become the first
official member of The Portsmouth Friendship Centre's new membership scheme,
Centre Friends, launched at a special evening dinner on 8 February 2008.
Over 50 people joined the Lord Mayor at the dinner,
where they enjoyed a three-course meal, made up of a variety of ethnic
dishes. Almost £1,000 was raised via ticket sales, a raffle and charity
auction and the funds will support the Friendship Centre's good work.
"I am proud to be the first member of this new scheme,"
said the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Councillor Mike Blake. "The Friendship
Centre is both unique in the city and crucial to social cohesion in a multicultural
community. I suggest that all members each tell five friends about this
scheme, so encourage even wider support."

"Becoming a Centre Friends member is a great way to
actively demonstrate your support for a vital community facility in Portsmouth,"
added centre manager, Den Barry. "We now have nearly 200 members and this
number is growing steadily." Future 'friends' events at the Centre include
a Thai Night on Friday 16 May with a hot and cold Thai buffet as well as
Thai dancers. For more information, contact the Portsmouth Friendship Centre
or sign up to this FREE scheme via the website.
